Case Study
Leadership Training for engineers & technical personnel
Background & Situation
Our client, (a major defence contractor who develop products and services for the UK and global defence industry), recognised that to continue to grow, they needed to ensure that their engineers – who are leading teams – needed common leadership skills to enhance their ways of working, especially their customer management skills. They stated, “Leadership skills are now as important as engineering skills”. Think Sigma were asked to run a series of training programmes for their engineers.
Benefits
The Engineers gained a Common set of leadership skills that are also transferable across different divisions within the organisation.
An additional benefit was that networking between leaders increased leading to a reduction in the ‘silo’ culture that was previously in place. This enabled the sharing of solutions to common (but not shared) problems and allowed the engineering delegates to move across divisions, thus improving the organisations resource pool and capability.
The final outcome was the improved levels of confidence and leadership skills which was needed to support the businesses rapid business growth.
What we did
We delivered a series of hybrid training modules, on-line and face-to-face over a 9-month period, with 1 module delivered every 6 weeks. The workshops were very interactive, practical, and focussed on improving work performance. Support by internal sponsors/SME’s was encouraged and appreciated.
The programme covered:
- Leadership versus management.
- Implementing change
- Coaching and mentoring
- Strategy
- Innovation
- Building and Leading successful teams
- Managing and influencing stakeholders
At the request of the client, we did not engage with a 3rd party awarding body to enable the students to receive certification for this course, but to do so would not have been an issue.
